LASIK is a procedure that’s done for people who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. An ophthalmologist would need to evaluate the patient and determine if they are a candidate. We primarily look at the thickness of the cornea because, with LASIK, we are actually thinning the cornea to decrease someone’s nearsightedness. Before you’re decided to be a good candidate, we need to know exactly how much cornea you have.
