Do You Need Ophthalmology Services for Glaucoma in Shreveport?

Glaucoma is not something that you want to let fly under the radar. Regular ophthalmology visits will ensure that you are able to catch the disease early before optic nerve damage or blindness occurs. We welcome you to our Shreveport Eye Clinic and ophthalmology services in order to detect glaucoma in its early stages before any serious consequences occur.

Signs of Glaucoma

Many patients report that they have eye pain or feel like their eyes have pressure building up in them. This is a common early symptom of glaucoma. It is important to go to your ophthalmologists if you have felt eye pain like this so that a possible glaucoma diagnosis occurs immediately. The damage that you have if you do have glaucoma is irreversible, so early detection is key.

Other signs of possible glaucoma include halos around lights, vision may seem blurred. Due to higher intraocular pressure (IOP) on the eye, many patients report headaches and/or eye pain. Another symptom of glaucoma can be abdominal pain that may result in vomiting or nausea. If glaucoma is left untreated, blindness is a possibility. Some patients will report sudden loss of vision.

How Our Ophthalmology Eye Center Will Help with Early Glaucoma Detection

We recommend with every annual eye exam that you are tested for glaucoma. If you have a family history of glaucoma or are over 60 years old, you are at higher risk. Other risk factors for glaucoma include thin optic nerves, thin corneas, and even nearsighted or farsighted vision. If you have diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure, you are also at higher risk for developing glaucoma.

Treatment for glaucoma can help to normalize the eye pressure by either decreasing the fluid production or helping the eye drain its fluid. Laser surgery can also help relieve glaucoma by draining the fluid.
